Top 5 trends of TikTok in July

July was no less in the trends category on TikTok and we had a number of very cool trends taking over FYP. The one thing I love summer for (yes, the only thing, I’m a winter girl!) is that summer is trend season. And if you missed June’s, you can find them here.

Let’s take it from the top.

1. YOU DIDN’T GET A SPEED TICKET? JEFFYYYYY.

Jeffy one was the best. In my opinion (as in school, let’s discuss), it was one of the most volatile trends on TikTok that happened in July. Besides the fact that people used it obsessively, even brands were hogging it. A D O R E. I’m a big fan of the Ryanair TikTok account, people are very direct and true, because of this they are also doing very well in terms of reach and engagement. If you want to see how they used it too, you can find it here.

2. GIIIRL DINNER

I’m sure you’ve heard of This is my meal, I call this girl dinner. GIIIRL DINNEEERRR. It’s been interpreted and reinterpreted in a bunch of ways. Of course, food brands have stormed this trend, no doubt. Here a few examples from KFC (pretty much every KFC account has done this, from every country you can think of), and MC Donald’s. I love it.

3. Barbie filter

The Barbie film was a success, both on the Marketing campaign (we are manifesting budgets like this) and from sales. Of course, there was no getting away from the X trends with Barbie. My favourite is the one with the Barbie filter (how would you look as a Barbie Character). The funny thing about it is that the brands that have the mascot have actually adapted it – and it’s been a lot of fun. A perfect example of how to play with trends on TikTok as a brand. Check out what Wattpad did. If you don’t know what Wattpad is, it’s this place where you can find reading material, any kind. Books, fanfiction, fiction… basically when you’re still living in your y/n era, it’s perfect.

4. The chicken egg

I’ve had a lot of second thoughts about this, but when something works, it works. Basically it’s this natural process where the chicken lays an egg. The funny thing about this trend is what comes out of the egg. I KNOW YOU’VE SEEN IT, I KNOW. I know the first time it amazed and scared you at the same time, i know. But after a few days it became really really funny, is it? Duolingo SLAYED this one. We all know what Duolingo does, and for some time now they’ve had some great content on TikTok (from teach your lesson to why it’s worth having Duolingo premium), and the account admins are not at all giving up and jumping on any trend they see.

5. SEVEN (dance trend)

I won’t do this top 5 without a dance trend, NEVER. Because we have to give credit where credit is due. Dancetok takes up 70% of the platform and is a very useful tool for artists promoting their new music. In July, Jung Kook took Tiktok by storm with his new track, “Seven”. Usually Kpop dances are pretty hard, but this time it’s acceptable and pretty easy to learn. The artist started a challenge on the song and the whole world danced to it. I know you know the song because it’s all over the place, you probably didn’t know that it has Kpop influences, being entirely in English. Enjoy the wave, xoxo.
